Introduction
What happens when you cross a coastal Strawberry with a mountain Strawberry? Well thanks to some clever cultivators in South America we now know it produces a striking white strawberry with red seeds. But the fun doesn't stop there, its still sweet like a strawberry apart from it tastes a bit like a pineapple!
Pineberries are extremely rare and only available for a select few weeks each year.
History
Pineberries were first found growing in South America in 2002 before becoming available in the US in 2012, and now here in the UK - albeit for a very short time!
Regions
They are currently grown commercially in the United States, Belgium and Netherlands.
Flavours & Texture
With A sweet strawberry taste with a sharp pineapple undertone, pineberries are the same size as a supermarket strawberry with a rough diameter of 15 to 23 mm.
Preparation
The skin is edible, eat as you would a normal strawberry withe r cutting around or eating around the stalk.
